Our Story

A citizen science approach to the biggest fish in the sea

Thai Whale Sharks previously known as Koh Tao Whale Sharks was founded in 2017 to assess and monitor the populations of Whale Sharks found around Koh Tao, Koh Samui and Koh Phanghan.

Due to the success of the program, it became Thai Whale Sharks in 2020 and its new goal was to assess and monitor the populations of Whale Sharks throughout Thai waters.

We use Citizen Science to collect images of Whale Sharks that we then analyze to look at how many we are finding and how often they reappear.
